Rubus bartonii Newton
Distribution:
Locally abundant in the pinewoods at Formby and extending across the
vice-county as scattered but often locally abundant populations.
Habitat:
Woods, hedgerows, railway banks and industrial spoil heaps.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
This species is occasionally grown in cultivation and a proportion
of the populations are likely to originate from garden escapes. It is also likely
that this species is increasing from the North Wales strongholds where R. bartonii
is often the most dominant bramble in woodlands.
