Distribution:
Widely distributed but very local. Good stands of this species have
recently been discovered at Freshfield Heath (SD20Z & SD30E, DP Earl, J
Earl & PH Smith, 2006).
Habitat:
Birch woods, heaths, heath tracks on the former lowland mosslands,
oak-birch woodland and the fringes of ungrazed valley mires.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
Seldom abundant and usually far less frequent than R. plicatus
on the mosslands.
