Distribution:
Occasional to locally frequently between Clitheroe and Brierfield; Simonstone
(SD7733, DP Earl & J Jones, 2008); Whinny Heights, Blackburn (SD6926, DP
Earl & J Earl, 2011); a few plants near Rochdale (SD9011, DP Earl &
SP Toone, 2003). Recent records from Formby Pinewoods (SD2708); the Trans-Pennine
Trail, Sandfield Park, Knotty Ash (SJ3992); Risley Moss Woods (SJ6691) require
confirmation.
Habitat:
Hedgerows, woodland and along a disused railway; in a recently planted area
of trees and shrubs at Rochdale.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
Herbarium material has recently been determined by A Newton for the locations
in the east of the vice-county, the Lancashire plants are the red-styled variant.
Possible accidentally introduced at Rochdale.
