Rubus caesius
hybrid complex
This map has been generated using a programme created by
John Lowell for the South Lancashire 'snapshot flora' 1995-2005.
A revised map needs to be created to show the additional records made since
2005.
Distribution:
Locally abundant along the Mersey valley especially between Warrington and Stretford.
Often forming dense thickets along the mineral line of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Hybrid plants also occur particularly about Aintree and in the Ribble valley.
Habitat:
Hedgerows, canal and river banks, railway banks, field scrub and derelict land.
Comments:
Some records for Rubus caesius are likely to belong to this hybrid
complex.
