Distribution:
A very localised species with scattered populations across the lowlands from
the coast at Formby (where locally abundant) to the Tame and Roch Valleys in
the east. Note the record for Salmebury (SD5930) linking with the Preston populations
in vice-county 60.
Habitat:
Dune pinewoods, hedgerows, roadsides, river valley scrub and old railway lines.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
This species is considered thermophilous being common in western Cheshire and
along the North Wales coast but far less frequent in South Lancashire.
