Distribution:
Haydock Park Woods (SJ5997, DP Earl & A Newton, 1997, BON); Moss Bank, St.
Helens (SJ5199, DP Earl & A Newton, 1997); Radcliffe (SD7706, DP Earl, 1997);
Lower Penwortham (SD5328, 2003, Herb DP Earl, conf. A Newton); Nuck’s
Wood (SD4116 & SD4216, DP Earl, 2005); Helmshore (SD7722, DP Earl, 2006).
It is also thought that this species is a feature of hedgerows between Wymott
(SD4920); Leyland (SD5420) and Salmesbury (SD5930) but confirmation is required
as such plants may be a localised undescribed species.
Habitat:
Woods, railway banks, hedgebanks and a colonist of a disused sandpit.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
A strongly western species in the British Isles, the Lancashire populations
are considered recent and represent the northward migration of this species.
