Rubus lanaticaulis
Edees & Newton

This map has been
generated by Mapmate 09/11/2011
Distribution:
Locally common to the north of Parbold with scattered populations occurring
elsewhere from Ainsdale (SD3011) to Hollinworth SD9612).
Habitat:
Hedgerows, woods, disused railways and the margins of quarry workings.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
First discovered by the windmill, Harrock Hill (SD5113, DP Earl, 1994, BON,
det. A Newton). This western species reaches a northern limit for mainland England
in Lancashire although populations do occur further to the north in Man and
Ireland and locally in South-western Scotland. It is possible that plants referred
to as the Samuel
Gibson Bramble are actually this species in which case the distribution
of Rubus lanaticaulis in England extends further east into Yorkshire
via the Ribble and Calder gaps.
