Rubus ordovicum laciniate
form - The Middleton Cut-leaved Bramble
Distribution: Only known to occur at Middleton Junction, Manchester where plants were
discovered by DP Earl & P Bowdler on 25/07/2010.
Habitat:
Amongst scrub dominated by Bramble Rubus ordovicum.
Taxon Designation: Considered an endemic; South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments: Discovered amongst the dense scrub of typical Rubus ordovicum
that occurs at Middleton Junction. It is thought that this cut-leaved variety
has arisen from a mutation of the typical plant. It is not known if cut-leaved
variants of Rubus ordovicum has been found prior to this discovery.
