Distribution:
The main populations appear particularly in the hills to the north of St. Helens and extend across to the Bury district. Further north plants are frequent about Blackburn and Whalley. Scattered populations occur further to the east and to the south at Haydock, Croft (SJ6294); Martinscroft (SJ6588) and Cadishead (SJ7091). Note the isolated record from Coal Pit Lane, near Oldham (SD9202).

Habitat:
Hedgerows, heaths, moorland scrub and roadsides, old railways and cemeteries.

Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.

Comments:
Plants were first discovered along Chapel Lane, Parbold (SD4910, V Gordon, c. 1970, det. A Newton).
