Distribution:
First discovered in woodlands and field borders north of Jumbles Reservoir (SD7314,
SD7315, SD7416, DP Earl & J Earl, 1993, BON, conf. A Newton). Further populations
have since been found at Prestwich (SD8003 & SD8004, 1998); Shaw (SD9408,
2004); the Todmorden district (SD9324 & SD9420, DP Earl, 2005); Big Wood,
Chorley (SD5616, SD5617, SD5717, 2007). The records for Sennicar Lane (SD5808)
and Leverhulme Park, Bolton (SD7308) are provisional with site visits being
required when the plants are in flower.
Habitat:
A characteristic species of old woodlands, but also found in field scrub and
recently as a railway bank colonist.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
Widespread in north-western Europe.
