Rubus pistoris W.C. Barton & Riddelsd.

This map has been generated by Mapmate 04/11/2011

Distribution:
There are records from SD80 & SD92 (Newton & Randall 2004). Recently found at Hollingworth Lake (SD9314, DP Earl, J Earl, P Bowdler & A Bowdler).

Habitat:
Usually on heaths, relic heaths, field scrub on moorland fringes and associated lane-sides.

Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.

Comments:
This taxon is essentially a micro-morph (genetic dwarf) of Rubus nemoralis. On occasions plants of Rubus nemoralis that are growing on poor soils can closely resemble Rubus pistoris as at Ince Blundell (SD3203) but to date no truly convincing bushes have been seen in the field situation by DP Earl. The record for SD92 mentioned above could be from vc63.
