Distribution:
Locally common near St. Helens and Wigan, extending to Rufford (SD4517); Lostock
near Bolton (SD6709) and a present day northern limit for the British Isles
at the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Wheelton (SD6021). Note the records from
near Hale (SJ4782 & SJ4783) which link up with the Cheshire population in
the lower Weaver Valley.
Habitat:
Woodlands, hedgerows, scrub, railway banks and canal banks.
Taxon Designation:
South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
The distribution of this species in the British Isles is disjunct with the Cheshire
and Lancashire populations being a considerable distance from the other populations
which are found in the south-west of Britain.
