Rubus ‘The Rivington Bramble’

This map has been generated using a programme created by
John Lowell for the South Lancashire 'snapshot flora' 1995-2005.
A revised map needs to be created to show the additional records made since 2005.

Distribution:
Frequent to locally common along the fringes of the West Pennine Moors especially from Horwich to Darwen and locally abundant in Lever Park. An outlier population occurs in the developing oak-birch woods at Risley Moss.

Habitat:
Parkland scrub, moorland roadsides and oak-birch woodlands.

Taxon Designation:
Local Endemic; South Lancashire Axiophyte.

Comments:
Often growing with Rubus scissus to which it can be similar in appearance to when growing along exposed moorland roads. There is no doubt that this taxon is however a member of Sect. corylifolii. The flowers are white and the anthers are consistently hairy and often densely so. There is a voucher specimen from Lever Park (SD6312, DP Earl & J Earl, 1996, BON).
