Distribution:
Abundant in the clough to the west of Rose Grove Cemetery, Burnley (SD8031 &
SD8131, DP Earl, 1997, BON, conf. A Newton) and extending down the clough to Lower
House Lodges (SD8032); a few plants on the M65 slip-way at Rose Grove (SD8232,
DP Earl, 2000); lanes about Brindle (SD6023 & SD6025, DP Earl, 2011).
Habitat:
Woodland clough and roadside scrub.
Taxon Designation:
Endemic; South Lancashire Axiophyte.
Comments:
Considered endemic to the British Isles this bramble is most frequent in the hill
districts of Wales. The plants at Brindle represent the southern limit of the
Lancashire population that is a feature of the roadside verges on the northern
flanks of the Bowland Fells vice-county 60.
