Rubus 'The Coal-measures Bramble'

This map has been generated using a programme created by
John Lowell for the South Lancashire 'snapshot flora' 1995-2005.
A revised map needs to be created to show the additional records
made since 2005 such as the record for Haskayne Cutting, near Southport (SD3609).

Distribution:
Frequent to locally common about the former mining areas between St. Helens, Wigan and Boothstown, with an outlier at Haskayne Cutting, near Southport (SD3609).

Habitat:
Woods, woodland borders, hedgerows, field scrub and industrial spoil heaps.

Taxon Designation:
Regional Endemic; South Lancashire Axiophyte.

Comments:
This species closely resembling Rubus incurvatus. The flowers are smaller than those of Rubus incurvatus, whilst the leaflets differ in shape and shade of green. This species also occurs on the Wirral Peninsula, in woods to the south of Chester and in great abundance about Buckley, Flintshire, North Wales.
