This map has been generated by Mapmate 26/12/2011
Former Distribution:
Once considered frequent. It is thought that plants were last recorded from Ainsdale
NNR (SD21V, PH Smith, 1983): Savidge et al (1963).
Habitat:
Old pastures especially in the hill districts; sand-dunes. Plants were associated
with Ophioglossum vulgatum in meadows opposite Arden Hall, Reddish Vale (SJ99B,
Grindon 1859).
Taxon Designation:
Species of Conservation Importance in North West England; Flowering Plants &
Ferns Ff4(a); Lancashire BAP Provisional Long List.
Comments:
This species probably became extinct due to loss of habitat, such as dune succession
and agricultural improvement. Extensive searches of several historic locations
in recent times have been unsuccessful.
