Solanum sarachoides Leafy-fruited Nightshade
Distribution: A recent record from (SD41, SLFP) requires confirmation.
Former distribution: Castleton, near Rochdale (SD81V, CES, 1967); car park at Freshfield Station (SD20Z, P Lockwood, 1989, det. V Gordon).
Habitat: Malt tip and a grass verge.
Comments: Neophyte, casual, native to South America.
The recent record would have been made between 1995 and 1999 but the precise
details are not known. It should be noted that prior to the publication of Stace
(1991) plants named Green Nightshade were referred to as this species and therefore
we have to consider the possibility that the above records might be for Solanum
physalifolium rather than Solanum sarachoides.
