There is a recent record from the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal (SJ79G,
MPG Tolfree, 2003). Known historically along the banks of the Irwell, Clifton
(SD7903, Grindon 1859).
Early flowering bushes similar to Rubus caesius are very abundant along
the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. It is assumed that those bushes are
of hybrid origin. Such plants are very common between Barton and Warrington
and are referred to as the Mersey Valley ‘caesius hybrid’ complex
whilst the true Rubus caesius is seldom found.
