Rubus loganobaccus L. Bailey - Loganberry

This map has been generated by Mapmate 30/12/2011

Naturalised plants of Loganberry were first observed at Lumn's Lane, Clifton Junction (SD7902, DP Earl, 1991). Small but established populations have since been found at several other locations with the Salford Borough.

Note also the earlier record from the adjoining Wigan Borough at Astley Green (SJ7099, P Bowdler, 1954).

During the winter months it can be quite difficult to distinguish Loganberry from un-named ‘Mersey Valley’ brambles which also have pruinose stems. These brambles occurs in great abundance closeby to the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey between Stretford and Warrington and are referred to as the Mersey Valley ‘caesius hybrid’ complex.
