A frequent species of the mossland Birch woods, heathlands and amongst Birch-Oak woodland about Worsley and the Irwell Valley.

Characterised by the stamens being shorter than the styles and the pink-based filaments. The stem prickles are curved and the panicles are diffuse and interlacing.
