Angelica archangelica L. - Garden Angelica

Common along the River Irwell and the Manchester Ship Canal from Clifton House Farm to The Glazebrook. Plants usually grow on rocks and retaining walls rather than the damp alluvial sands which are favoured by Heracleum mantegazzianum (Giant Hogweed).

Small populations have been found along the Bridgewater Canal. There is a record from Swinton (SD7701, 1991) where this species was probably a casual and may not have persisted.
