There are historic records in Grindon’s Manchester Flora of 1859 for Little
Hulton (SD7203, R Hampson); Boothstown (SD7200); Drywood, Worsley (SD7500); Botany
Bay Wood (SJ7398). At Botany Bay the blooms were so abundant in 1857 that the
agricultural workers (referred to as mowers) cut the blooms with their scythes
and took such gatherings home.
