Frequent. A species of damp meadows, lawns on damp soils, by pond and reservoirs and along canal watersides. This species is easily over-looked when not in flower and is therefore probably under-recorded. The flower clusters are very noticeable in spring time. The local folk of ‘Lancashire’ and ‘Cheshire’ often called this plant Mayflower correlating with the peak flowering period although flowers do appear from about mid April.
