
A local plant strongly associated with the developing birch woodlands on drained mossland. The following statement "very common in Little Woolden birch woods" (T Edmondson, 1953) still applies today.
The records from the east of the borough are historic and include: the lane from Irlam 'o' 'th' Height to Agecroft (Grindon 1859); close by to Kersal Moor (JC Melvill, 1879).
