A local plant of damp meadows that is most frequent in the Irwell valley, this species is often introduced as an ingredient of wet grassland wildflower seed mixtures. Known from boggy parts of Kersal Moor (SD8102, Melvill 1882).

Note the recent taxanomic change from the genus Lychnis to Silene (Stace 3rd. Ed.).
