A solitary plant occurred at the edge of a manhole cover in the beer garden
of the Barton Inn (SJ7496, DP Earl & J Earl, 1991) and the plant did not
persist; also found along the path above River Irwell north of Regent Bridge
(SJ8297, Audrey Franks 1992-1997); formerly abundant on Kersal Moor (SD8102,
Grindon 1859).
Recently (2009) plants have been found along the East Lancs Road from Ellenbrook (SD7301, DP Earl, P Bowdler & J Somerville, 4 plants) to Irlam o' th' Heights (SD7900, DP Earl & P Bowdler). It appears that at the present time Buck's-horn Plantain is rare along the Salford section of the East Lancs Road but it is likely to increase in frequency over the coming years. Further forays are being carried out to see if additional populations can be discovered along the trunk roads and along the motorway junctions where pedestrian access is permitted. Note the recent record from Cadishead (SJ7091, DP Earl & P Bowdler, 2010).
