Primula veris L. - Cowslip

Scarce at the time of the 1991-1992 survey with a single record from the Broadoak
area (SD7600, Greater Manchester Plant Atlas). Since that time plants have been
found at Worsley (SJ7499, MPG Tolfree, 1997); Blackleach Reservoir (SD7303 &
SD7304, DP Earl & MGP Tolfree, 2003); Broughton (SD8200, DP Earl & SP
Toone, 2003); Clifton Country Park (SD7704, DP Earl, 2004). All populations appear
to have been introduced via the creation of wildflower areas.
The historic records traced are fom "In
the meadow below Hope Hall, on the Eccles Road and in other places near Eccles,
plentiful (Buxton 1849); formerly plentiful at Worsley (J Evans Grindon
1859).
