There are several historic records from Clifton Aqueduct to Lower Broughton quoted in the Manchester Floras an example being : "Plentiful beyond Agecroft bordering the Irwell and the little streams that strengthen its current" (Grindon 1859). Note also the record from the Woolden Woods (SJ6993, P Yates, c. 1910). It is possible that this species may still occur along the banks of the Irwell and Glazebrook.
