Carex nigra (L.) Reichard - Common Sedge

This map has been generated by Mapmate 03/02/2012

A plant of acid grasslands especially about cloughs and along the Irwell Valley; also found occasional on the disturbed clays adjacent to the motorway system. Although present at Clifton Moss (SD7603) there are surprisingly few records from other mosslands sites.

Recorded for Greenheys Clough and Agecroft Hills (Grindon 1859) where this species still occurs today.
