A common species of grasslands and waysides. Viviparous plants were recently found at Swinton (SD7800, DP Earl & P Bowdler, 2009). Images of the viviparous plants are shown on the website. Vivipary is a means of vegetative reproduction, the vegetative grows along the flowering spike will eventually fall to the ground where rooting could take place if the environmental conditions are favourable.
