A wetland species found around the margins of reservoirs, former gravel pits and
along canals; a feature of the marshy ground known locally as ‘flashes’
where mining subsidence has occurred. Plants can also occur as a colonist of damp
ground as on mining spoil ballast by the Bridgewater Canal. Some populations may
have originated from landscape planting schemes.
