Introduced as a feature of reclamation planting schemes as in the Irwell valley at Clifton (SD7803, DP Earl, 1991). This species can readily regenerate from seed to the extent of being locally dominant on waste ground as by Salford Crescent Station (SJ8198, DP Earl, 2001).
