Empetrum nigrum L. - Crowberry

This map has been generated by Mapmate 14/01/2012
Crowberry was assumed to be extinct in South Lancashire below 230 metres (Savidge
et al 1963) but plants have since been found in lowland heathland communities
at Clifton (SD7902, DP Earl, 1991) and Alder Forest Common (SJ7499, DP Earl, 1991
& MPG Tolfree, 1995). Later found as a colonist of colliery spoil at Walkden
(SD7204, DP Earl, 2004).
On a return visit to Alder Forest Common
(DP Earl, 2009) the small population of Crowberry was not found and may have
been lost to the extension of a sport field.
