

Commonly planted in woodlands, parks and along railway banks. Most trees are male and are thought to be the Black Italian Poplar var. serotina (Hartig) Rehder. Female trees have been found at: a Roe Green (SD7501, DP Earl, 1991); Swinton (SD7601, DP Earl, 2003) and are thought to be var. marilandica (Bosc ex Poir.) Rehder.
