This species has long been known to occur at Kersal Moor (SD8201) and although
JC Melvill expressed his concern that the population was gradually disappearing
and near extinction back in the 1890’s a few bushes were still to be found
in 1991. A further population was discovered at Centenary Circle (SJ7898, MPG
Tolfree, AR Locksley & C Walsh, 2002) possibly at the sandstone outcrop to
the south of the site of Ladywell Hospital.
