Occasional, widespread.
Habitat:
Usually found as a feature of recent amenity planting schemes along old railways,
canals, parks, shrub-screening, etc.; plants are occasionally naturalised in
hedgerows.
Comments:
Neophyte, native to Japan. The earliest record traced is from Hillside Golf
Course (SD3113, 1988). The var. atropurpurea is frequently planted.
