Distribution:
Mainly a feature of the coast with plantings often as single or a few trees between Crosby and Ainsdale. There are inland records from Litherland (SJ3698), Waddicar (SJ3999) and Calderstones Park (SJ4087).
Habitat:
Conifer plantations, dune sand-binding plantings and parkland Arboreta.
Comments:
Neophyte, native to south-western Europe and the Mediterranean. Plants were recorded from the Formby district as early as 1943. This species is readily distinguished from other pines by the large cones.
