- Cherry Plum

This
map has been generated by Mapmate 11/02/2012
Distribution:
Widely planted and considered under-recorded.
Habitat:
Amenity tree and shrub plantings.
Comments:
Neophyte, native to south-eastern Europe. Plants are likely to be common in
the country parks, recreational areas, etc. In general records of Cherry Plum
indicate the travels of recorders that are familiar with this small tree rather
than the actual species distribution.
The earliest record traced is from Dinkley (E Stones, 1986) probably from the
car park at Marles Wood (SD6735) where this species still occurs.
The widespread plant is var. cerasifera characterised by the white-flowers
which general start to appear before the green-leaves emerge.
