VASCULAR
PLANTS
The most extensive sections on this web site are those of the vascular plants.
There are five sections which are:
This section covers:
LYCOPHYTES
- The Clubmosses
EUSPORANGIATE FERNS - Adder's-tongue and Moonwort
CALAMOPHYTES - The Horsetails
LEPTOSPORANGIATE FERNS - The Ferns
Wild Flowers
Work has now begun with the species accounts for the wildflower section. Following
Stace 3rd Ed. the uploads extend to the genus Saxifraga. The next uploads
will include details for Heuchera sanguinea - Coral-bells.
Grasses Rushes and Sedges
Species accounts for this section will be uploaded after the work on the wildflower
section has been completed.
Trees and Shrubs
This section covers any trees and scrubs with the exception of the genus Rubus.
Species accounts have been uploaded and will be developed further in due
course.
Brambles
This section covers species and hybrids belonging to the genus Rubus.
Species accounts have been uploaded and will be developed further in due

General Details
A considerable number of vascular plants
will only be cited by the taxon name in the South Lancashire Flora publication
especially casuals, garden escapes and planted trees and shrubs. For such taxa
deatiled species accounts and associated distribution maps are gradually being
uploaded to this website. This procedure has already been carried out for the
Ferns and Horsetails section and the Trees & Shrubs section and is currently
being carried out for Wild Flower section.
Where maps appear on the main website the symbology tends to be as follows:

At the request of the South Lancashire Flora Committee species accounts and the associated distribution maps (plotted to the tetrad level) for native and extensively naturalised taxa are not to be uploaded until after the publication of the forthcoming flora. Note however that summary data plotted at the 10km level has been released by the BSBI and therefore it would seem appropriate to steadily add 10km distribution maps to the webpages. Updates with the associated 10km distribution maps have already been uploaded for Acer campestre, A. platanoides and A. pseudoplatanus. These uploads are intended to assist the targeting of vascular plant taxa at the 10km level for the new date class 2010 onwards. Note the map of Acer pseudoplatanus for which there are 2010 records for all of the 10km squares within vc59 (South Lancashire).
THE
SALFORD FLORA
Note the additional link
to The
Salford Flora all the web pages for this flora have now been uploaded.
It should be noted that two visits to the
Salford Borough were made during January 2012 and the results of recent finds
will steadily be uploaded.
It is intended that a web page providing details about the development of the
Salford Flora will be uploaded shortly.
